in UniCredit’s bold transformation to become the bank for Europe’s future
From laggard to leader
With 15 million customers across 13 banks, UniCredit has a significant presence throughout Europe. But for a long time, it had been seen as a bit of a laggard. In 2021, it announced its new strategy, UniCredit Unlocked — a plan to transform the bank from a disjointed, siloed group of banks into a unified, modern leader — or, in its words, “the bank for Europe’s future.” Its success so far has been undeniable, with results consistently beating analysts’ forecasts. The trouble was, its reporting suite simply wasn’t telling this story. It reflected the bank it used to be — a collection of case studies and disclosures with no common thread and a design that didn’t portray it as the modern, ambitious bank it is.
A clear story of success
We ensured each document had a clear role and identity while feeling like part of a cohesive family. The integrated report now provides clear sustainability disclosures, while the annual report focuses on storytelling and showcases UniCredit’s broad impact.
To bring these stories to life, we incorporated 100 employee stories into UniCredit’s reporting, extending beyond the printed reports to a dynamic microsite we created. These stories also appear on the walls of UniCredit's offices across Europe, with QR codes that can be scanned to access the microsite, because what is truly propelling UniCredit forward is its people.
An ambitious transformation
The result is a bold, modern, engaging suite of reports with a microsite that brings the content alive – and crucially, is reflective of the bank that UniCredit is today.
